I see you polishing a feature that a customer may not even need. I see you delaying a launch because the design isn't "pixel-perfect." You are falling in love with the work in your workshop, convinced that you get to decide when it's done.
I had to learn this the hard way: you don't get a vote. The market is the only editor that matters. "Finished" is not a milestone you reach internally; it is a verdict delivered by your customer when your product solves their problem so well they can't imagine going back.
This truth is the heart of The Law of Connection. Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand. You cannot connect with your customer's reality from the safety of your office. You can't guess their frustrations or anticipate their needs from a spreadsheet. To truly connect, you must put something in their hands—something imperfect, incomplete, and unfinished—and listen.
When you launch something that feels unfinished, you are doing two critical things:
1. You are trading your opinion for their reality. Your internal debate about whether a feature is "ready" is a monologue. It's noise. The only signal that matters comes from a customer trying to use what you've built. An imperfect product in the hands of a user creates a conversation. A "perfect" product on a hard drive creates nothing but doubt.
2. You are inviting them to build it with you. When you present something as a finished masterpiece, customers become critics. When you present it as a work-in-progress to solve a shared problem, they become partners. They will forgive the rough edges because they are invested in the outcome. They will give you the roadmap you've been trying to guess at.
So, look at your product roadmap right now. Find the one thing you are holding back because it doesn't feel "finished." You know the one. It keeps you up at night.
Here is my challenge to you. Strip that feature down to its absolute core. What is the smallest possible version you could ship that would start a real conversation with a user? Not a test user. A real, paying customer.
Now, ship it. Do it in the next 48 hours.
It will feel uncomfortable. It will feel premature. It will feel like you're showing the world your unfinished work. Good. That's the point. Stop trying to write the final chapter by yourself. Hand the pen to the market and let them tell you how the story ends.
